Chinese Crispy Empanada by Mike Chai

December 13, 2009

As soon as I arrived in Puerto Princesa, Palawan, I immediately took the chance to roam around and see what Puerto Princesa looks like. Along Rizal street, it was a busy business center that has a touch of what Palawan is. First, it’s very clean. People in the area know how to throw their trash in the right place.  Second, the native shops are all around that is uniquely Palawan. Third, Puerto is also a place of good food. One of my discovery was the Chinese Crispy Empanada of Mike Chai Bakery.  At first, I was skeptical to taste since I saw this in bus terminals in Metro Manila and when I tried it, it did not gave me the hit to blog. But this Chinese Crispy Empanada does brought its promise as a delicious, crispy and wonderful empanada. It was so popular at the area that people just come and go.  I tasted their pork curry flavor and it was one of the best empanada experience that I had.

Where to Find

Chinese Crispy Empanda of Mike Chai Bakery is along Rizal street near E. Valencia, downtown Puerto Princesa. Their empanada is one of the best that I tasted. It is very good for your merienda or light dinner. For my experience, I paired it with Chinese milk tea. It was the perfect match to enjoy the tasty empanada of Mike Chai. Then I concluded, it was a worth walking along the streets of Puerto for you will discover delicious food in this very warm and clean place in the Philippines.

Ilocos Empanada

March 4, 2009

You may not be in Ilocos or Vigan but you can still have a taste of their delectable food .  Ilocos Empanada has been in the metro for 11 years and has been serving delicious Vigan Empanada consistently.  Their Empanada is much bigger than the other Vigan Empanadas that I tasted and it comes with a sachet of sukang Iloko.  You may even call them to have your order in advance so you don’t have to wait at their shop for the empanada to be cooked.  The taste is simply heavenly.

Where to Find

Ilocos Empanada is along Katipunan Ave. QC and its near the boundary of Miriam and Ateneo.  They are known at the place simply because they have been there for a long period of time and at the same time, their shop is noticeable because of its trendy colors. You may call them at (02)928-86-09 to place your orders in advance.  When passing by Katipunan ave. have a bite of a Vigan Empanada that has been perfected here in the Metro.   It is worth dropping by for the taste will prove its worth.  Rapsa sa Katipunan!!!

Chicken and Pork Empanada

February 2, 2009

There is another empanada that I will truly recommend.  It is the pork and chicken empanada of Globake. Aside from their famous, Asado Siopao, this empanadas are fast becoming one of their flag products.  It is very creamy and taste so yummy.  They have created not like other empanadas where the bread is hard and the fillings are only few.  They have a generous fillings for it and the taste is even more delightful.

Where to find

They are located along United st. and is very near Pioneer st. Kapitolyo, Pasig city.  They are at the back of Pioneer Center and near the entrance of barangay Kapitolyo.  They also have a shop at EDSA Central. You may also contact them at 02-632-1881. When you go to Pasig from Shaw. Aside from their famous Siopao, there Chicken and Pork Empanada is surely a true hit for eating machines like me.J

Vigan Empanada

January 27, 2009

The first time I got to taste this famous Vigan Empanda was year 2000 when I went to Vigan for work.  I can still remember that it was made and served underneath a tree near the church. Since Vigan Ilocos Sur is very far, I made efforts to search where I can find this empanada in the metro. This search has led me to Mac’s Deli Original “Vigan Empanada and Okoy”  where they serve original Vigan Empanada, vigan longanisa, Bagnet and other Ilokano favorites.  If you go there, will see them hand-rolling the crust and cooking the empanadas similar to the method they are doing in Vigan. This will compliment best with their sukang Iloko.

Where to find

Marc’s Deli is located inside Tiendesitas, Fontera Verde, Pasig City. They also branched out at SM Mall of Asia at Southwalkway. For me I suggest Tiendesitas, because you can enjoy your Vigan Empanada at night with a couple of beers and live music.  You may also contact them at 02-631-7619 / 02-635-3152.  Agpayso nga naimas!!!!
