Bulca Chong Rapa sa Toro

March 12, 2009

There are many varieties of beef soup dishes. In Davao, this restaurant has formulated its own and called it Bulca Chong in year 2000.  It cannot be compared to Bulalo because the soup is thick and the taste is different. The soup is also reddish and a little bit gingerly in taste.  But this is very delicious. The soup is rich blended with meat. The main part of the soup is Carabao meat. It is a little bit similar to Kansi in Iloilo. This is one unique soup and a must try most specially for Bulalo Lovers.

Bulca Chong is located at General Luna at the heart of Davao’s down town area near Gaisano Illustre. The best of Davao is not only fruits but also the rich talents and culinary masterpieces their restaurants has to offer.  When in Davao, never forget to drop by Bulca Chong to experience this unique soup dish. Bulalo of Calle Z

February 12, 2009

One of the best bulalo that you may find in Tacloban City, Leyte is at Calle Z or Calle Zaragoza.  Calle Z is a restobar that has been an institution at the place because of is ambiance, warm people, and good food.  It’s an ancestral house of my friend Gerry Ruiz which he converted a part of the house in to a restobar.  Now, the whole ground level has turn out to be an extension of the restaurant to accommodate more customers. Their Bulalo is one of food that drives people to go to Calle Z.  They have a consistent taste to which I can attest.  It has been 3 years now since I last visited the place and up to now they have maintained the same taste of bulalo and  classic music café looks.

Where to find

Calle Zaragoza is located in the heart of Tacloban City along Independencia st.  It is easy to locate even the tricycle or pedicab drivers can bring you there. Ask where to find a very delicious bulalo, and you will be led to the place. For reservations, you may call them at 053-3258582 Good food, cold beers, good music, a real classic café and accommodating people has made this café a real watering hole that has a signature of it own.

Bulalo - Pata

December 24, 2008

Everyone is now preparing for their Noche Buena which is common for every house hold in our country.  The common food that we eat n this occasion are ham, queso de bola, mantequilla, hot chocolate and lechon (roast pork). Some also prepare turkey and other gourmet dishes.  For easy to eat feast,  there are crispy pata (pork hind) , lechon manok (roast chicken), pansit ( noodles).  For us , I decided to make our main dish not common in the Noche Buena feast.  We prepared Bualo Pata.  It is made of the ox feet cooked as early as 5:00am today and was ready by 12:00pm.  Bulao pata is part of my craving to eat this superb dish.  Cooking it slow will surely make it tender.  NO other garnish to be added ony, salt, onion, ginger.  Boiling the bones for a long period of time is better than using msg because it releases the natural taste of beef which makes the broth more delicious.

Where to find

Bulalo Pata is available at Pares Mami House located along Retiro st. Quezon City.  It is near Jonas at Mayon Ave. But for my case, if I crave for it and it so happened that my craving falls on the weekend, I’ll make it sure that I will make it here in Antipolo.

May your Noche Buena tonight bring you to a next level of the Filipino food experience!!!
