Chicharon - Susan’s Chicharon

January 1, 2009

“Some of the common food that we all know can be found everywhere.  There are those who create just to fill the need of our food craving.  But there are those who perfected their craft that brings both satisfaction to our taste buds and satisfaction to our soul.”

Chicharon can be found everywhere.  When I was young, I use to have a small pack of it after school and eat it with vinegar and salt.  I can still remember it right, the brand of this chicharon is “Barok” with the picture of Barok and Gundina.  That was my first recollection to this wonderful food.

During my travel, I came about a Chicharon that is made in their backyard and is distributed in major establishments in the island paradise of Bohol.  The name is “Susan’s Chicharon”and they have been doing this since 1988.  Their Chicharon is  the one which we call “Chicharon may Laman”.   They have a technique in cooking that will not require the sun drying process which most chicharon manufactures do. Their technique has made the cracking pork much tastier than the ordinary.  Not to mention that they don’t use MSG to give flavor.

Where to find

Susan’s Chicharon is located at Tagbilaran City, Isand of Bohol.  To be exact, factory is located at Pelias st., Taloto District , Tagbilaran City, Bohol.  You may reach them at (038) 4115609.  From what I know, there are those who get chicharon from them at Manila, Cebu, Cagayan De Oro and Tacloban.  What I heard, those who ordered from Manila did not reach the distribution level since the distributor themselves keep the chicharon for their personal consumption.

The sound of chicharon cracking is like music to my ears.  Most specially when eating Susan’s Chicharon (I enjoy eating it with rice and made sure I have a monthly stock here in Manila. hehehe) .  A must try when you have your vacation in the island paradise of Bohol
